What is High Precision Worm
Purpose: The steering worm is the core component of the electric power steering (EPS) system, which converts motor torque into steering force and determines steering accuracy and smoothness. Materials: commonly used HRC58-62 degree hard alloy steel (such as 20CrMnTi carburizing and quenching); Geometric characteristics: complex tooth shape (Archimedes worm/involute worm), high precision of root filleting; Common risks: Traditional processing is prone to tooth shape errors, insufficient surface finish, hard material chipping and other problems.

High Precision Whirling Core Pain Point
There are three major bottlenecks in the machining of traditional vertical machining centers for steering worms: (1) low efficiency (2 hours for single part processing); (2) poor surface roughness (Ra≥1.6μm), which requires secondary polishing; (3) high scrap rate (5%-6%) of hard material processing, resulting in delays in delivery cycles and cost overruns.
High Precision Whirling Process
Blanks (forgings) → roughing (turning outer circles/faces) → finishing (cyclone milling tooth profiles) → surface treatment (deburring/cleaning) → quality inspection (pitch/roughness/tooth profile)
Key points of the sub-link
- Rough machining: Hydraulic rotary collet (S42) clamping, the new generation 220TA system controls the X/Z axis for rapid positioning, turning the outer circle to the tolerance ± 0.05mm, reducing the subsequent finishing allowance;
- Finishing: cyclone milling head unit (FAG/SKF bearing) high-speed rotation (speed adjustable), Zhengwei direct drive C-axis full closed-loop control (grating feedback) to ensure tooth indexing accuracy ± 0.005mm; The knife path adopts spiral interpolation to avoid hard material chipping;
- Surface treatment: built-in cooling system (30μm filtration) + oil temperature machine (Tongfei/Quanguan) to control the cutting temperature, reduce thermal deformation, and the surface roughness is stable below Ra0.3μm;
- Quality inspection: coordinate measuring instrument detects pitch accuracy (JIS B1192-C5 level), roughness meter verifies Ra value to ensure 100% qualified delivery.
MX500-N50 External Screw Whirling Machine
MX500-N50 precision cyclone milling is a special machining machine tool for small modulus precision worm, planetary screw, trapezoidal thread and other parts. Adopting full closed-loop control technology, it can process HRC60±2 degree hard materials, with a surface roughness of Ra 0.3μm or less, and the pitch accuracy meets the JIS B1192-C5/GB/T17587.3-P5 standard. The equipment has strong stability, simple operation, and supports the production mode of one person and multiple machines, effectively reducing labor costs and production cycles.
