What is Ball Screw
Ball screws are the core transmission components of machine tools, robots, and high-end equipment, responsible for converting rotational motion into linear motion. Commonly used materials include superalloys, stainless steel, titanium alloys, etc., and the geometric characteristics are diverse thread cross-sections, 25° adjustable spiral lift angle± and large length-to-diameter ratio (maximum tip distance 6800mm). Common risks in production: insufficient thread accuracy leads to transmission errors, poor surface roughness affects life, cooling hole quality is not up to standard and causes overheating, high equipment maintenance costs delay orders.

Ball Screw Thread Grinding Core Pain Point
- Precision bottleneck: It is difficult for traditional equipment to control the spiral accuracy of superalloy threads, and the scrap rate is as high as 5% or more.
- Low efficiency: grinding wheel trimming takes a long time, and the processing cycle of a single piece is long, which cannot meet the needs of order delivery;
- High maintenance cost: poor equipment stability, easy to grinding wheel wear, spindle deformation and other problems, annual maintenance cost accounts for 10% of the equipment value;
- Slow service response: The after-sales cycle of overseas equipment manufacturers is as long as 7 days, resulting in huge losses due to production line shutdowns.
Ball Screw Thread Grinding Process
Blank → roughing→finishing→ cooling hole process→ surface treatment→ quality inspection
Key points of the sub-link
- Rough machining: T-shaped bed X/Z axis linkage (vertical in the same plane + grating ruler feedback) is used to quickly remove the margin and ensure the dimensional accuracy of the foundation;
- Finishing: The A-axis rotary table automatically adjusts the spiral lift angle and locks, and the grinding wheel is corrected by the diamond roller to correct the electric spindle programmable modification (the amount of contour removal is self-compensated), and it is suitable for any thread cross-section;
- Cooling hole process: the cooling system of the outlet water in the center of the chuck ensures that the temperature of the workpiece is stable during the processing process and avoids thermal deformation;
- Surface treatment: grinding wheel speed 1000-3000r/min, with precision grinding parameters, control surface roughness Ra≤0.32μm;
- Quality inspection: Renishaw encoders dynamically feed back the spiral accuracy, and the workpiece starting point detection device ensures machining consistency.
