CNC Ball Screw Whirling Solution

What is Ball Screw

Usage: Ball screw is a key transmission component of lathes and VMCCs, responsible for converting rotational motion into linear motion, which directly affects the positioning accuracy and operational stability of the equipment.
Material: High-strength alloy material that needs to withstand high loads and frequent friction.
Geometric characteristics: The spiral raceway structure is complex, and the accuracy of the pitch and lead is extremely high (P5 level needs to be controlled at the micron level error).
Common risks: insufficient accuracy leads to equipment stuttering/positioning deviation; processing deformation causes waste; Improper cooling accelerates tool wear; Chip buildup affects machining quality.

Ball Screw Whirling Core Pain Point

There are three major bottlenecks in traditional ball screw processing equipment: (1) insufficient precision (only up to P7 level) to meet the needs of high-end machine tools; (2) The processing length is limited (≤2000mm), making it difficult to cover long-stroke equipment; (3) Slow service response (more than 72 hours), delaying production orders. These issues directly lead to high scrap rates, higher costs, and decreased customer satisfaction.

Ball Screw Whirling Process

Blank → cyclone milling milling machining→ cooling→ detection → chipping
Key points of the sub-link

  1. Blank Processing: Forged/cast blanks are selected to ensure uniform material density and reduce the risk of subsequent deformation.
  2. Cyclone milling and milling processing: adopt a rear inclined guide rail layout (to improve rigidity), and link with the linear movement of the Z axis through the C-axis (spindle) rotation (0-15rpm) to quickly remove excess material. The C-axis is driven by Siemens servo motors, decelerated by planetary gearheads, and controlled by a Renishaw encoder for closed-loop control to ensure precision of movement. The X-axis (feeder) is driven by a servo motor, decelerated by a right-angle planetary reducer, and cooperated with the Spanish Fage grating ruler to achieve micron-level feeding; The cyclone cutterhead is driven by a Siemens spindle motor, the speed is adjustable (set by the system program), the spiral angle is manually adjusted and the spiral raceway is accurately machined through encoder feedback.
  3. Cooling: Support air/water cooling dual modes, customers can choose according to the material (such as alloy/stainless steel), effectively reducing tool wear and workpiece deformation.
  4. Inspection: Integrate Renishaw rotary encoders (C-axis) and Spanish Fage grating rulers (X/Z axes) to monitor machining parameters in real time and ensure P5 level accuracy.
  5. Chip discharge: The chain plate conveyor automatically sends chips to the chip collection box to avoid accumulation affecting processing.
